Las Posadas is a festival celebrated across Mexico and some parts of the United States from December 16th through December 24th. Los Posadas commemorates the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of safe refuge for baby Jesus to be born. Each evening during the festival, a child dressed as an angel leads a procession through town. They stop to visit homes to read passages of scripture, and to sing Christmas Carols. On the final day of the festival, children break open star-shaped piñatas which are full of candy and toys!
